LEGO does NOT train facilitators but still produce and sell bricks specifically used for the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method. Facilitators who claim to be associated with LEGO in any way are doing do against LEGO trademarks.
Since LEGO does not train facilitators there exists NO official LEGO certification training. However other facilitators also seek to comply with high quality standards. Hereunder trainers engaged with Association of Master Trainers in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Method. This association is founded by the creators of the LEGO Serious Play method. This association offers a broad and very useful certification training in the use of the LEGO Serious Play method. They do not, however, cover the scientific underpinnings of the target area like we do with positive psychology.
So the main difference between LEGO® SERIOUS® PLAY® for Positive Psychology and other programs has not to to with any LEGO affiliation or other formality. The main difference lies in the application focus.
Method AND Content
LEGO® SERIOUS® PLAY® for Positive Psychology builds on the belief the the deliverance quality of a method like LEGO® SERIOUS® PLAY® depends not only on understanding the method itself, but also the content that it explores. In this case positive psychology.
Positive Psychology is a science with a complex range of theories, extensive research and multiple applications. We believe that a god facilitator of the LEGO® SERIOUS® PLAY® for Positive Psychology method needs a good understanding og this content.
Last but not least LEGO® SERIOUS® PLAY® for Positive Psychology is the domain in which you can learn to use the Hands On Thinking method. This method being the evolved version of the core LEGO® SERIOUS® PLAY® method.
Build & Share is a group facilitation method that builds on theory, research and application within positive psychology and narrative practices. When applied in groups the method helps you get deeper, more meaningful understanding of topics especially related to motivation, resilience and engagement.
Build & Share is a method that provides an engaging and more memorable approach to shared group understanding and self-exploration in areas related to well-being and optimal human functioning. Based on research that shows that literal hands-on, minds-on learning produces a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world and its possibilities, Build & Share deepens the reflection process and supports an effective dialogue – for everyone in the group. This is done by posing reflective questions, but instead of answering these questions in the traditional way, participants build their answer in for example LEGO® and respond by using metaphors and narratives they have created themselves.
Sharing is fundamental
It is crucial that each person’s voice is heard during this process. Everybody shares what is on their minds, and everybody is listened to. This is very important in order to achieve the purposes of the Build & Share process: to let everyone share their thoughts in a constructive way and to give everybody a chance to hear each others’ points of view. Sharing is fundamental to Build & Share; on one hand sharing is done to create a common understanding of the group’s way of dealing with a situation, and on the other hand to create the best starting point for people to feel ownership for the reflections and ideas expressed. Eventually this will help them to arrive at the solutions and actions that need to be taken in order for them to enhance their well-being and group performance.
Who developed Build & Share?
The method has been developed my Mads Bab who runs the Danish based consultancy Gnist (Danish word for Spark). Mads holds a MSc in Applied Positive Psychology, is an international keynote speaker, published author and part time associate professor at the Danish Positive Psychology Master Program. The driver behind the creation of Build & Share is a dedicated approach to develop more powerful ways for, especially, groups to explore concepts within positive psychology. It is startling how few new intervention and group facilitation methods that have been developed over the last decade. Build & Share is a dedicated approach to enhance the effect of scientific validated interventions in groups by applying tactile elements to ensure a more tangible learning process.

I am a passionate organisational consultant working from a multidisciplinary background, but with positive psychology and design thinking center stage.
After 10 years as a leadership trainer and executive coach with the company intenz I formed my own company Gnist (Danish word for Spark) in 2011. Since 2001 had the privilege of working with management and employees of some of the most interesting companies in Denmark and abroad.
In 2010 I completed a MSc in Applied Positive Psychology (Similar to MAPP) at the University of East London. The two years it took to complete the course, I got a different view of research than what I previously had. Science is Sexy and Positive psychology is far more than just the idea of happiness or “positive thinking” – this is a major focus and study of what makes people thrive and grow.
My interest and passion within positive psychology has brought me as key note speaker and trusted advisor around the world, into partnership with extremely skillful practitioners and ambitious organizations. Last but not least I serve as part time associate professor at University of Aarhus’ master of positive psychology. Here I mainly teach and advise on the use of positive psychology in organizations.
I have published four bookes related to positive psychology:
Spark of your worklife
Collective resilience (together with Nikolaj Juul Jakobsen)
LEGO Serious Play for Positive Psychology (together with Dr. Ilona Boniwell)
